We are on a mission to deliver anything

Delivery Hero recently launched its Logistics-as-a-Service in over 25 countries. Logistics-as-a-Service (LaaS) is part of a bigger picture at Delivery Hero, in fact, one could say it is a key ingredient in Delivery Hero’s mission to deliver anything.

What do we mean when we say we will deliver anything? Do we really mean anything? And what does this look like in practice?

Delivery touches almost all our lives. Particularly in the last two years, its importance has only gone up as safe and convenient services have been a lifeline to many throughout the pandemic. Delivery Hero has been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of not only delivery, but delivery at a record speed, yet our aim is to always aim higher and Logistics-as-a-Service is enabling us to do just this. Read on to find out how we are expanding our bigger picture to include, well almost anything
.

Introducing new and innovative ideas that break the mold is a key ingredient for Delivery Hero, whilst also listening to what our ecosystem needs. Consumer expectations are continuously changing, so understanding customer needs and providing smart solutions is essential when it comes to delivering an amazing experience.

But what does Logistics-as-a-Service mean and why are we doing this? How does it differ from the types of quick commerce services we are already accustomed to?

Keeping an ear on the ground

Part of pushing the boundaries of innovation is listening closely to what your customers need. Always aiming higher is a core value at Delivery Hero and so recognizing that there is a need before your customer does is key.

The service was first launched in the Asia-Pacific market with restaurants and in Latin America with individuals using on-demand service but has since expanded to over 25 countries across the globe.

Lavneesh Arora joined Delivery Hero in 2020 as Director, Deliver Anything with the opportunity of putting together a structured global initiative supported by a central team. A vision, a strategy, a roadmap, and a team (including business, product, and tech) were put together to build a global deliver anything business. Since then it has evolved into one of Deliver Hero’s global initiatives to drive next-generation growth. Today, Deliver Hero delivers anything across many categories for vendors outside the platform such as retailers and pharmacies in the Asia-Pacific region, or fashion and electronics in the Latin American market.

Logistics-as-a-Service leverages our core competency as a company. Collaborating with vendors and brands to utilize our fleet, an idea that began with food has since grown exponentially to encompass a wide variety of categories available in multiple countries. It not only provides additional earning opportunities for the riders but also enhances the delivery capabilities and experience of our entire ecosystem.”

Using logistics for good

Logistics-as-a-Service is the next logical step in the evolution of quick commerce. What exactly does this mean? Traditionally e-commerce is the process of ordering an item online. By centralizing infrastructure and optimizing logistics, quick commerce offers this service at record speed – with delivery in as little as 10 minutes.

Logistics-as-a-Service takes this experience one step further. Where quick commerce optimized logistic infrastructure, it uses logistics as the foundation of innovation. By connecting an ever-growing network of local shops, restaurants, and popular chains, it offers customers the opportunity to make use of fast rider service even if the order was not placed through one of our apps, opening up a world of immediate delivery options without previous limitations.

In practice, this means that when you order from your favorite online retailer but need the item as soon as possible, one of the riders can pick it up and deliver it to you right away. As such, the riders operate in a nature comparable to a courier service. If you need a document signed and then delivered, Logistics-as-a-Service can offer the logistics to do just that!

The great thing about Logistics-as-a-Service is that it contributes positively to our ecosystem by giving local shops a bigger platform and opportunity for building out new revenue streams. Delivering anything you want from your local neighborhood, as well as the online e-commerce platforms you are already used to, at record speed. Logistics-as-a-Service doesn’t replace the traditional quick commerce process, it just adds an extra quick option to the process and as the name suggests enables businesses and individuals to leverage Delivery Hero’s vast fleet to deliver anything, instantly.

Connecting all aspects of the ecosystem

Logistics-as-a-Service is providing the next convenient step in quick commerce. With the ongoing pandemic and the need to stay home and safe persisting, services like this are acting double to both keep us all safe and also make our lives easier. The aim of Logistics-as-a-Service is not to replace e-commerce providers but to expand their possibilities, connecting industries, platforms, and companies. It aims to decrease wait times for customers, and expand the opportunities for smaller businesses that otherwise might fall behind larger retailers.

By including all parts of the local and worldwide ecosystem Logistics-as-a-Service is helping Delivery Hero leverage its unique position of being hyperlocal but also global. Caring for our ecosystem is a top priority for Delivery Hero and Logistics-as-a-Service is just another opportunity to positively contribute to the environment we work and operate in by using innovative technology for good. We are on a mission to deliver anything, in record time.
