From the inside out: Embracing mental wellbeing

At Delivery Hero, we consider it our responsibility to our Heroes to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, where belonging and representation are championed, and where people can feel safe and supported when it comes to their mental wellbeing. As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, we take a look at some of the initiatives across the company that support Heroes in their everyday lives and create a workplace where everyone can thrive. Read on to find out more about three great resources available to our Heroes.

Mind and Body

One of the great tools available to our Heroes at our Berlin Hero Hub is access to the Headspace Meditation app. During the month of May, Heroes will find QR codes throughout Delivery Hero’s headquarters which prompt them to take a break and do a quick mediation using Headspace. Allowing for mindful breaks in one’s busy schedule and taking time to unwind is vital in maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

Keeping physically active is beneficial to one’s mental wellbeing; this is why all Heroes have access to discounted memberships to Urban Sports Club. The app allows you to participate in fitness classes throughout the city via one simple platform. Additionally, our Heroes can also participate in weekly yoga classes at the office to help them start the day on the right note.

Mental Wellbeing Heroes

The Mental Wellbeing Program was started so employees would feel supported in their mental wellbeing as well as be educated, empowered, and aware of how they can access support for themselves as well as help their fellow Heroes. Furthermore, it aims to continue to normalize, destigmatize and inform the conversation and culture around mental wellbeing and health at Delivery Hero. The program was launched in 2020 as a peer to peer support network in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The program helps provide heroes with information and resources surrounding mental wellbeing.

Additionally from the program the Wellbeing Heroes were launched as an additional mental health support mechanism for our Heroes. It is open to any Hero who wants to receive Mental Health First Aid training and so far 64 Heroes have been trained. The Wellbeing Heroes are available to all Heroes to reach out to receive support and be guided towards appropriate resources.

Fostering Community and Inclusion

An important part of Delivery Hero’s efforts to create a community of belonging is ensuring that diversity and inclusion is part of the conversation when it comes to our daily work and life.  In order to achieve this goal, Delivery Hero’s Diversity and Inclusion team plays a key role in supporting employee-led initiatives within the company.

The team helps manage the Employee Resources Groups, known as HeroCommunities, of which there are three: the Proud Heroes, Muslim Heroes, and Female Heroes. Feeling accepted and welcomed is key in maintaining a healthy mental wellbeing and groups like these provide a safe space for people to seek advice, find community, and bring their full selves to work.

Furthermore, twice a year Delivery Hero conducts a global Peakon employee satisfaction survey. The survey includes targeted questions about mental wellbeing and support, for management to accurately assess if their team’s needs are being met. It’s a crucial part for Delivery Hero in understanding how they can help their employees to thrive.

Caring about mental wellbeing is important to Delivery Hero’s company culture, starting with our values: We are Heroes because we care, We always aim higher, and We deliver solutions. Providing resources and space for our Heroes to focus on their mental wellbeing contributes to a healthy working environment. At Delivery Hero we want to be a safe space for our Heroes to be their authentic selves.
