Delivery Hero and Foodik consolidate Russian Online Food Ordering Market
Agreement to merge both platforms
The online food delivery companies Delivero, the Russian subsidiary of Delivery Hero Group, and Foodik have announced a merger agreement today. Delivery Hero, one of the fastest growing internet marketplaces worldwide, thereby consolidates the Russian market by joining forces with Foodik, creating a strong contender to compete for the market leadership in Russia.
“We are excited to merge with Foodik. The Foodik team has successfully proven how to scale the business sustainably in Russia,” says Delivery Hero Co-CEO Fabian Siegel. “We are looking forward to the combined business, that will continue to be run by the Foodik team. This partnership will provide better online food ordering experience to consumers in Russia.”
It is the first time that Delivery Hero is driving consolidation in a market. The joined company will focus on the Foodik brand, allowing Delivero customers to access all restaurants on the Foodik.ru platform. Aleksandr Shamis, founder of Foodik and Chairman of the combined company is convinced: “The partnership with Delivery Hero and Foodik is a decisive step for market consolidation in Russia and it will accelerate our strategy. We will offer even greater value to our partner restaurants and consumers.” Siegel and Shamis point out that the overreaching goal of this transaction is to access new international growth opportunities. Only in August Delivery Hero announced a €40 million fundraising round, which has pushed Delivery Hero’s total raised capital to €80 million ($100 million), making the company one of the best financed European internet start-ups in 2012. Berlin-based Delivery Hero has expanded into 12 markets globally since its 2010 launch and offers best-in-class partnership opportunities to 25,000 partner restaurants on four continents, employing more than 450 heroes worldwide.
