Delivery Hero Orders Increase 169%

In 2012 CEO Östberg: “Become number 1 in our markets”

In just two years, Delivery Hero has established the largest restaurant platform for online takeaway worldwide, and with an order increase of 169% in 2012, the Berlin-based company is confident they will break even in 2013. “The model works because restaurants get customers, customers get choice and we get commission,” says Delivery Hero’s CEO Niklas Östberg. “We’re already making sales of more than 300 million.”

The number of restaurants within Delivery Hero’s network climbed 173% to 34,000, and in 2012, total food orders reached 9.56 million. In six of its twelve markets, Delivery Hero is market leader, and in four they take a strong second place. “Our focus for 2013 is to strengthen existing markets further. In the long term we want to be the number 1 in all our markets,” says Östberg, who has over five years experience working in online food delivery.

The 32-year-old Swede accents his purpose to stand out from the tight market by offering more services and innovation. This has already been proven with the development of a point of sales terminal, and a variety of mobile choices – not only for Android and iPhone but also for Windows Phone and iPad. “We invest a lot in the choice and quality of user experience,” Östberg explains. “For instance smart algorithms to give our users best recommendation based on feedback from our user generated reviews.”
