  • Delivery Hero Tech Academy launches today with a diverse cohort of 20 students representing 12 nationalities
  • The Tech Academy aims to increase diversity and representation in the technology industry, equipping students with the knowledge of the coding languages Java and Python to start a career as an entry-level engineer at Delivery Hero

Berlin, 6 September 2021 – Today, Delivery Hero SE (“Delivery Hero”), the world’s leading local delivery platform, launches its Delivery Hero Tech Academy. The 9.5-month-long program equips students with the knowledge of the Java and Python coding languages and has been developed in partnership with the Digital Career Institute (“DCI”). Based in Berlin, the program is fully funded by Delivery Hero and will be conducted in a hybrid working environment to be as inclusive as possible for all participants.

The Delivery Hero Tech Academy is an opportunity to foster diversity and inclusion in the technology industry. Our teams are solving big and complex tech challenges, and the selected students will get to directly understand the impact our proprietary technology has in ensuring deliveries around the world at break-neck speed. After completing the curriculum, students will have the opportunity to start their careers as entry-level engineers at Delivery Hero.

Christian Hardenberg, Chief Technology Officer at Delivery Hero

In line with Delivery Hero’s broader ambition to create a more representative tech industry, a key requirement for applicants to the program included no previous experience in coding. Similarly, diverse and underrepresented groups were strongly encouraged to apply. During the application period between May and July 2021, the Delivery Hero Tech Academy received over 700 applications. As a result of the interview process in partnership with Benchmark.games, 20 students were selected for the program. In the first Tech Academy cohort, 12 nationalities are represented, 75% of the participants identify as female, and the students span a broad age group between 23 and 41 years.

At Delivery Hero, we believe in equal representation and creating equitable structures and systems. The diverse backgrounds and experience of the selected Delivery Hero Tech Academy cohort speak to this. The program is just the first step Delivery Hero is taking to create a more inclusive tech industry. Paving the way forwards, we are excited to see the tremendous impact of the Tech Academy and to further strengthen our diversity and inclusion efforts in the second half of 2021 and beyond.
