Berlin, 12 May 2021 – Delivery Hero SE (“Delivery Hero”), the world’s leading local delivery platform, today announced plans to re-enter the German market under its brand foodpanda. Seeing a great opportunity due to evolved customer demands and an under-penetrated market, Delivery Hero believes in the potential that Germany has to offer. foodpanda already operates in more than ten countries across Europe and Asia, and will bring its signature pink deliveries to the streets of Berlin later this summer. foodpanda is first starting with a soft launch in the center of Berlin in June, and plans to expand operations to more German cities after an official launch on August 10th.

In recent years, we have seen a positive change in customer demand with a clear opportunity to bring back our superior service to the German market. Using Delivery Hero’s global expertise to match the evolved need for speed, convenience and choice, we are ready to deliver an amazing experience to all Berliners and shape the German delivery industry for good together with the full delivery ecosystem – riders, restaurants, local shops and customers.

Shaping the German delivery industry and driving quick commerce
By August, Delivery Hero will officially enter the German delivery scene with its full platform offering: from restaurant food to quick commerce, including Dmarts (small warehouses in the city center) and local shops. Through the foodpanda app, Delivery Hero intends to connect online customers to a wide and diverse selection of dishes and restaurants, making sure that they can enjoy an amazing delivery experience from the comfort of their homes. In order to fulfill its mission to deliver anything locally, the company will also roll out its quick commerce operations and establish partnerships with local stores. Furthermore, Delivery Hero will be opening its own Dmarts with the goal to deliver groceries and convenience items in as fast as 7 minutes. The Group also plans to launch cloud kitchens and restaurant concepts.

We have always kept an eye on Germany and see tremendous opportunities to improve the customer experience. Based on what we develop for customers in other countries, we know that our product offering is exceptional. We are therefore convinced that we can add value to the full ecosystem. We will now focus on building our German operations from scratch on the back of a powerful and well-established platform, creating new business opportunities for shops and restaurants.

Artur Schreiber, CEO of foodpanda Germany

Having a positive impact on the local ecosystem
Delivery Hero is dedicated to fostering sustainable relationships with all partners in its community and is looking to use its platform to have a positive impact on society at large. The Group wants to create more business opportunities for restaurants and vendor partners in Germany. By running the logistics via a sizable fleet of couriers, local partners are provided with an advanced infrastructure that enables them to focus on their core capabilities. For local shops, Delivery Hero acts as a true digital partner, making it possible to access both offline and online customers. As always, Delivery Hero wants to make sure that all riders work under fair and safe conditions, while having a continuous dialogue of how to best serve their interests in terms of flexibility, compensation and the access to work.
