Enhancing diversity and opportunity in the tech community

As part of their ongoing efforts to empower women in tech and close the gender gap within the industry, Glovo launched their inaugural “Women in Tech Night”, a monthly professional community gathering in Barcelona. The event was held at Yellow Park, Glovo’s new headquarters, and featured a series of inspiring talks from female role models in the tech industry. It also provided attendees with valuable networking opportunities amongst Glovo employees, as well as guests from partner companies AWS and N26. With over 150 women in attendance, this new monthly meeting marks the latest addition to the company’s existing programs, focused on cultivating and inspiring the next generation of women in tech. This further reinforces their commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the tech industry and beyond.

This commitment carried over to Singapore, where burgeoning developers took part in  January’s Hack&Roll 2023. The foodpanda Singapore team was proud to sponsor members of Singapore’s vibrant tech community at the National University of Singapore as part of the event, which is the largest student-run hackathon in the country. Over 600 passionate, promising developers came together over 24 hours to bring their ideas to life. Check out some of the exciting projects that were developed here.

The future of food delivery: robots make their landing in Dubai & Istanbul

Following the successful launch of Yemeksepeti’s first autonomous delivery robot, Yebo, in Istanbul’s Akasya Mall last October, a second Yebo recently began operating in Akmerkez Mall. The robot’s system is integrated with the mall elevators and has object censoring, a screen to show its expected order, and 2 separate sections to carry even larger deliveries. Yebo picks up meals from restaurants in the food court and carries them onward to the mall’s entrance, where they get handed off to the courier.

talabat announced the launch of autonomous food delivery robots, also known as “talabots” in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), revolutionizing sustainable last-mile delivery in the UAE. talabat’s app interface is fully integrated, allowing customers to track the robot’s journey and be notified when it arrives at their location, and unlock the secure compartment by following the steps provided on the app. This is part of the company’s ambitions to support riders in the next generation of sustainable delivery, by having robots cover short-distance deliveries to increase efficiency, optimize use of the fleet and reduce carbon emissions. This is in line with Dubai’s efforts to switch 25% of all trips in the city to smart and driverless by 2030.  Find out more here.
