Ten million meals donated: Delivery Hero celebrates two years with ShareTheMeal

Berlin, 30 August 2022 – Delivery Hero SE (“Delivery Hero”), the world’s leading local delivery platform, has reached the milestone of 10 million meals contributed worldwide through its global food donation program thanks to its local brands and customers. Working with charities across the world, the company empowers users to donate meals to people in need via their food delivery apps. The celebration comes almost exactly two years after the company announced its flagship partnership with ShareTheMeal, and underlines Delivery Hero’s commitment to leveraging its tech platform for good by joining the fight against global hunger.

Nine of Delivery Hero’s entities – efood, foodora, foodpanda, HungerStation, mjam, PedidosYa, talabat, Woowa and Yemeksepeti – have integrated food donation into their platforms, enabling customers to donate via the app to others in need. The success is the result of strong partnerships around the world, including the flagship initiative with ShareTheMeal, which is a unit of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). In September of 2020, Delivery Hero unveiled this partnership with an API integration, which allows customers to seamlessly contribute to the initiative while they place an order on their device.

Jeffrey Oatham, Senior Director of CSR, Sustainability and Safety at Delivery Hero, said: “Reaching 10 million meal donations is a huge achievement, and highlights what we at Delivery Hero strive for: global organizations building products and tools that have significant impact around the world. We see it as our responsibility to leverage our technology and platforms for good. I am proud to see our efforts come to fruition with our global meal donation program.”

Desiree El Chebeir, Head of Organization at ShareTheMeal, said: “We’re very grateful for Delivery Hero’s valuable support of our mission to feed hungry people all around the world. With global hunger on the rise, private sector partners have a big opportunity to play in helping WFP fund long-term solutions like school feeding programs, climate resilience, and nutrition support, to reach zero hunger.”

Delivery Hero has always been committed to building a world that future generations can be proud of, and its partnership with ShareTheMeal is just one part of that vision. For more details about the company’s CSR and Sustainability initiatives, read the Non-Financial Report for 2021 here.
