Berlin, 02 April 2020﹣As the world’s leading local delivery platform, Delivery Hero SE (“Delivery Hero”) is playing an important role by supporting the entire delivery ecosystem to keep its communities safe, healthy and fed. Restaurants and small businesses are playing a crucial role in providing people at home with food and necessary supplies, which is why today, Delivery Hero is announcing new global guidance to support local suppliers in over 40 markets.

Delivery Hero is issuing new global guidance with five key measures:

  1. Speeding up the process for new suppliers like pharmacies, grocery stores and restaurants joining our platform, adding 50,000 restaurants and 1,500 other vendors in the last three weeks
  2. Temporarily extending free delivery for customers in close proximity to our partners, with the vast majority of our user base now having the option to order without delivery fees
  3. Focusing our marketing efforts to support local restaurants, grocery stores and pharmacies
  4. Increasing frequency of payouts, which will improve cash flow for our partners
  5. Implementing no-contact delivery and cashless payments

Collaborating with over 500,000 restaurants across five continents, we work with many small and independent businesses that are vulnerable to quick changes in customer demand. Online food, grocery and pharmacy deliveries are providing essential services. To keep local businesses running during a challenging time economically, Delivery Hero’s support focuses on driving orders for restaurants and other partners.

In the wake of COVID-19, many small businesses are struggling to stay afloat, and we must support them to remain open for business. We actively assist our pharmacy, grocery stores and restaurant partners with marketing campaigns. Currently, we are helping to onboard many new suppliers to our platform and enabling them to do online delivery. This way, we can make sure that they don’t miss out on orders. Always looking to deliver an amazing experience, we have also launched no-contact delivery to make our service even safer. Now more than ever, we encourage everyone to support their local stores and restaurants.

Pieter-Jan Vandepitte, COO at Delivery Hero

Delivery Hero is accelerating the number of restaurants and other suppliers added to their platform, with 50,000 restaurants and 1,500 new verticals joining in the last three weeks. Some businesses are new to delivery, so we are assisting them to adapt their organisation to cater for online, rather than offline, customers. Seeing that many smaller businesses are battling with empty tables and stores, we are increasing payment cycles to improve their cash flow.

As a response to urgent community needs, Delivery Hero has started delivery of groceries and pharmacy supplies in many markets where it was not previously available. To offer an even safer service, we have implemented cashless and no-contact delivery in risk zone markets. For most customers, free delivery options have been temporarily extended when ordering from restaurants close by. This lowers the barrier to enjoy an online food experience and makes delivery accessible to a larger group of people. Most importantly, it makes it possible for more people to stay at home and adhere to social distancing.

With countries implementing social distancing, we can make a real impact on people’s lives by safely delivering meals, groceries and pharmacy supplies by trained professionals. Supporting the delivery ecosystem does not only benefit local businesses – it also helps vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, to access cooked meals at a time when staying indoors is advised. We want to contribute where we can, and by caring for our entire community of vendors and restaurants, riders and customers, we are making a difference where it is needed the most.
